Three Jolly Pigeons 3/8/14 Brooklyn, New York

Tonight began like any other gig, with a Pendejo (Idiot, Stupid, Dumbass) trying to pick a fight. Thomas picked me up in his vehicle as Rock Farm was bringing the Drums and we drove over to Joe's to get some Microphone stands, Amps and Guitars. As we were loading up the car Thomas had his car door open and an RV comes down the street but pulls up right behind Thomas, this guy is obviously in a rude rush, Thomas loads in closes his door and throws his hands up briefly in the air in a "c'mon buddy WTF" manner and lets the guy pass. Obviously this is not good enough for the man child as he stops his vehicle 10 feet in front of Thomas' car and gets out complaining.

The Piraguero (A Piraqua Vendor) said something along the lines of "can't you see I'm trying to pass" to which Thomas counters "I'm putting something in my car, can't you see my door is open just gimme a second" to which the Mamao (C**k Sucker) replies "I'm working" to which Thomas replies "I'm working too, I have a show". During all of this Joe tells this Mama Bicho (D**k Sucker) a few times "Hey Guy, Get Back in the car" and cowardly, Korean-Irish-Italian me stands by speechless thinking (what if this guy has a piece" and "oh no, why this ?, we are just trying to get to the gig). In my defense I was ready to Pummel the guy in Yegg fashion but thankfully he backed down and drove away, Thomas did notice some Food packages so he was a Food delivery guy having a bad night I suppose or more likely he was just a Carajito (Little Boy)

After he pulled away Joe the wise said "What was he going to do ? There are three of us !!!"

And there was much rejoicing and quite a few Pendejo jokes over the course of the evening.

Tonight was also the night that I learned that I ABSOLUTELY HATE TAPING.
I don't mean taping a recording, I mean taping down speaker wire with gaffer tape so no one can trip over cables on their way to and fro as Three Jolly Pigeons does not have a stage proper and people have to pass the band to get to the back room or the restroom. I am usually setting up the Drums while this is going on, Drums were there already, time to tape, Aaaarrrggghhh

Anyways there was a Great gig ahead for us as we played really well and of course the local Pancho's Mexican Food had already been on my mind for days. Who knew at this early part of the evening that we would also be dining as a band many hours later.

Joe IS The Danelectro Man,

As is tradition when playing The Three Jolly Pigeons there is No Way I am Not going to get some of the Delicious Mexican Food from Pancho's Restaurant just down the block and on the same block. Jennie did the honors of ordering and waiting for the Food (this reminds me I still owe Jennie Ten Bucks for it) while we were finishing setting up. Pictured above is a pair of Tinga (slow cooked shredded chicken) Tostadas (2 for $6.00) of which was a done deal as I have had them before, I ate these by hand and while finishing Joe asked around the table for the next round, I mumbled "a Cider" to which Joe busted out laughing due to my mouthful of food reply.

So far as Pancho's goes I want to try EVERYTHING on the Menu (and pretty much have) but always have second thoughts right up until the time of ordering, Jennie and Joe were getting Al Pastor Tacos ($2.50) and I asked "What's Al Pastor ?" to which Joe replied "It's Beef and Pineapple, its really good"

SOLD, and it was Really good. Bets were almost being placed that I would not finish my Tostadas and Taco as I eat lightly, I Did Finish and all before our first set.

Thomas and Joe are more of the manly Jack on the Rocks Dudes and I had my tasty Cider.

Rock Farm booked this gig and they invited us to co-headline. What a great bunch of guys, Adam  brought down his Gretsch "Gibraltar" kit and the Drums sounded Great, he also informed me that the muffling in the Bass Drum was a brick wrapped in cloth, interesting.

Rock Farm played an eclectic set spanning the 1960s up to present day and I was Impressed by many of the selections including "Maybe I'm Amazed", "You May Be right" and even Jethro Tull's "Hymn 43".

Tonight was Daylights Savings Time so the clocks were pushed forward by an hour, a late night for everyone, instead of ending around 1 a.m. it was now 2 a.m.

Rock Farm's last number was KISS' "Rock And Roll All Night" at first Thomas and Joe made a beeline to the microphone but being a Huge KISS fan I followed suit, This was spirited and fun as the Yeggs pitched in on chorus vocals for the final song of the night.

I spied this sign in the restroom and being a bandmate of Brian Dillon's in SMOOCH and knowing his sense of humor and also that he was a former member of Rock Farm and a man who frequents Three Jolly Pigeons surmised that he indeed was the one who graffitied "Now With Less Brian" on the flyer.

This exact poster now resides proudly on the wall at HesDeadJimStudios after I pilfered it.

A Meal Fit For A Yegg.

Something we never get to do, The after gig diner Party. Due to the fact that we did not have an entire Drum Kit to lug around and we only provided amps and the P.A. system The Yeggs were able to travel together in Thomas' car so we took this opportunity by the horns (at Joe's suggestion) and "GOT SOME FOOD" at the local Bridgeview Diner. Lime Rickey's All around and Cheeseburger Deluxe's with a cup Of Brown Gravy apiece to accentuate the French Fries. By now it was almost 5 a.m. but as Men will be Men so shall Yeggs be Yeggs.

Three Jolly Pigeons 1/11/14 with Frankie's Attic, SMOOCH and Little Old Ladies - Brooklyn, New York

Four bands in one night with a few of us playing double duty in more than one band at the Three Jolly Pigeons, quite the festival by the standard usually set by two, maybe three bands tops. What made this night special was that nearly everyone knew each other, I knew everyone except Rich Taglieri the drummer for Little Old Ladies and now I know him too (Really good drummer, very nice fellow) and all the bands were there for each other with a true sense of camaraderie. Brian Dillon pretty much emceed the whole night and a splendid time was had by all.

Frankie's Attic started the evening with a tasty set of acoustic numbers (amplified acoustic) featuring Fran-Simpson Cozzolino on vocals and as I am prone to say to her "You were great but I expected as much anyways", Fran also brought her Harmonizer so she could double track her vocals live. Frankie's Attic tonight were my old comrades Thomas Roberto, Franklin Poska and Nina Roberto,.... Nina Roberto ?!!!

And there she is Nina on Tambourine, I had no idea, I know she is a burgeoning Percussionist but did not know she was performing, great Job too, take it from me.

The Good Yeggs opened the noisy electric portion of the evening with a tight and concise set (all that rehearsal is paying off) premiering a new original song and one of our musically densest yet entitled "She's Gone" which was a tough one to nail down not so much due to its standard enough song structure but closely paid attention to "parts". Are the Good Yeggs becoming RUSH ?, not if Joe and Thomas have anything to say about it.

Resplendent in his Pink & Black RUSH related bowling shirt as he writes about himself.

Next up was SMOOCH for their sophomore performance. Unfortunately no photo's exist from this performance as legal advisors from KISSNATION were in attendance and all members of the SMOOCH ARMY were asked to please not take any pictures flash photography or not. If there are any photo's out there please contact us and they will be added here. The band introduced its new feature KISSAOKE tonight and Fran Powers (Little Old Ladies) took a crack at "Strutter" as well as Sal's brother in-law Ralph on "Rock And Roll All Night", Tom Roberto (Good Yeggs) was slated for a song but the clock ran over. Premiered tonight were the fan favorites "Rocket Ride" and "Parasite"

Earlier this evening I spoke to Brian (Gene) Dillon regarding Fran Powers stage wear (see below) and he asked me to add to this entry "I will no longer be breathing fire or spewing blood, I choose now to shit money"

The Enigmatic Fran Powers (Fran-Ma) sports a Flowery "Duster" as he leads the troops in the Little Old Ladies through their set. I am told these were mostly new songs from their upcoming CD. In typical Fran fashion he is not a man who is at a loss for words.

After the Little Old Ladies set I mentioned to Carl how his playing and riffing reminded me of Hawkwind.

Why ?, I completely forget, Will have to hear the material again but it did.

Brothers In Bass (L to R - Brian Dillon, Joes new Hofner Bass, Joe Cacciola)

Steak Chimichanga from Pancho's Restaurant just down the block, its part of the package.

Three Jolly Pigeons 7/27/13 Brooklyn, New York

There was indeed a festive atmosphere for tonight's performance from the get go because it was our friend Vlad's (Subway Serenader, Black Death) Birthday eve celebration so spirits were high and The Yeggs played exceptionally well tonight. Thomas played some Excellent Blues Guitar and we were a well relaxed outfit performing to some of our 3JP peers (Box Of Crayons, Joe Filosa, MC Too Tall) who were there to see the bands but also for the festivities and some bar patrons whom had not previously seen our show highlighting some good old Blues and Country Music that is become scarcer on the Brooklyn scene.

Premiered tonight was "Jumping Jack Flash", "Hey Good Looking", "Till The End Of The Day", "Baby, Lets Play House" and a new original tune from Thomas "Unfaithful Lady".

Thomas brandishing his 2005 Custom Shop 1968 Les Paul Custom Reissue, He also brought his guitar along as well.

My main Drum Kit, Ludwig Accent CS Custom with Ludwig and Tama Hardware, Sabian AAX and Zildjian "China Trash" Cymbals played with Pro-Mark 747 Nylon Tip Drumsticks. LP Cowbell and Vater stick holder included.

Joe rocking it with his Ibanez Art Core semi-hollow body Bass with double cut aways and F-Holes finished in an Amber Brushed finish. Jeans by Levi Strauss.

Supporting The Good Yeggs tonight were SMOOCH a KISS tribute band of which I am also the drummer. This was our debut gig and went very well, Brian made sure all contractual obligations were met and obeyed. Brian/Gene and Carl/Paul have previously played with us in the Subway Serenader band.

Box Of Crayons performed between our two sets and proved once again that if you aren't Irish you might want to become one. Featuring the incomparable Fran Powers on vocals along with Brian Dillon.

Setting up Vlad's Birthday Feast, this photo was taken before the Bagel Wheel came out. The Good Yeggs missed the Bagel Wheel as we were performing at the time but a high time was had by us in the "Green Room" between our sets. It was discovered that I only had my first Rice Krispie treat maybe 5 years ago and me and Jennie discussed how the Cheddar Cheese on offer was an excellent Mild variety but a crappy Extra Sharp depending on what the packaging advertised, the packaging never showed itself so this shall remain an enigma.

Brian/Subway Serenader/Box Of Crayons/Pocket Monster/Black Death/Gene from Smooch with the birthday boy Vlad.

I may have missed the Bagel Wheel but I did succeed in making my 3JP sojourn down the block to Pancho's Restaurant for a few Taco's. Pictured here is (1) Bistec/Steak Taco and (1) Pollo/Chicken Taco, I wanted a Tinga/Spicy Chicken Taco but that was not on the menu.

Three Jolly Pigeons 9/29/12 Brooklyn, New York

....Afterwards Jamie mentioned to me that the crowd this night was not only buzzed on some drink but completely soused in some instances, either way nobody fell down or puked in public to my knowledge so no harm, no foul and the band played on.

Unique to tonight's show was an impromptu rendering of "Blue Suede Shoes" as the crowd wanted an encore and we had run out of rehearsed material.

The Good Yeggs played two sets trading off with Brian's band Rock Farm.

Our friend Fran of Frankie's Attic performed with us at the end of the first set to the delight of the crowd singing the standards "At Last" and "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman".

The second priority (which comes after the first) of the night was to see if Pancho's Restaurant was open for dining or take-out, just a few doors down and on the same block even!!!

Pre-gig Dining it was, Jamie had an Enchilada Platter (3 Enchilada's, 1 Cheese, 1 Steak, 1 Chicken)

Being a Burrito fan myself I was ready to be WOWed and I wuz WOWed indeed,

Tinga (Chipotle Chicken) Burrito topped with Guacamole, Sour Cream, Tomatoes and Chips served on a red plate which is good luck in some cultures.

Three Jolly Pigeons 6/9/12 Brooklyn, New York

Photobucket

The Yeggs got to play on the same bill as Black Death and Baby Daddy Project "Let It Be That" (The Let It Be album in its entirety) at Bay Ridge's Three Jolly Pigeons and I got to see some old friends of mine as well, Sweethook was in attendance too. We played a tight set loosely and Jazelyn helped us out with backing vocals on "Another Brooklyn". Premiered tonight was the Stevie Ray Vaughan classic "Texas Flood" to which afterwards John the Bass Player yelled to Thomas "Your saving that for the Yeggs !!!" referring to the tasty 16 bar Blues guitar solo Thomas took.

   Photobucket

One of the things our rehearsal space is known for is the authentic railroad tie which we use to keep the bass drum sedentary and that is also quite heavy. Thomas forgot to bring the dumbbells along (the metal "weight" kind) so we transported the "tie" on the roof of Thomas' car, Fortunately and Luckily no one got hurt and I am referring to the other cars and innocent bystanders.

Previous to the gig Joe, Marco and myself stopped off a few doors down at Panchos for some authentic mexican food. I chose from the extensive menu and after asking Joe what a "Carnita" was (spanish for Pork) decided on Tostadas (2 for $6.00) one Carnitas (Pork), one Tinga (Spicy chicken) and a Lime Jarritos Soda. I Absolutely Loved the first Tostada (we think it was the Tinga but not sure) which had just the right hint of Cilantro and was piled high with ingredients atop a most durable and crunchy Tostada but there was something I didn't care about in the meat on the second one, it was kind of sticky and that reminds me a little of Pork Chops so I am assuming that was the Carnita. Either way I could eat here every day of the week.
